Whereas homozygous knockout female mice showed normal reproductive performance, homozygous knockout male mice were completely sterile. mouse D1Pas1 is the first-identified DEAD-box RNA helicase that plays critical roles in the final step of the first meiotic prophase in male germ cells.     2. unlike DBY in humans, the role of Dby in spermatogenesis is less obvious in the mouse and its biologic activity may be replaced by that of Ddx3 and D1Pas1. PMID: 16728723
