Like all recombinant proteins, this Recombinant HHV-2 gB protein was encoded by recombinant DNA. The recombinant DNA was introduced to a plasmid in which the gene of gB was cloned downstream of a promoter region. When the plasmid was introduced to the cells of E.coli, the E.coli’s own protein synthesis pathways would then result in the expression of the gB protein. And the next step was protein purification. The purity of this recombinant protein is 90%+ determined by SDS-PAGE.
Herpesvirus 2 Envelope glycoprotein B (gB) is also called UL27. The human cytomegalovirus nuclear UL27 protein could be involved at the stage of nuclear egress. Maribavir is a new anti-HCMV drug that targets nuclear egress through direct inhibition of the HCMV serine-threonine kinase, UL97 protein. Because maribavir-resistance-related mutations are observed in both proteins, UL27 is thought to interfere with UL97 activity. UL27 might either directly or indirectly involved in the mechanism of action of maribavir. Furthermore, MBV-resistant mutations also emerged in the UL27 gene in vitro and could compensate for the inhibition of pUL97 kinase activity. Sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate affects Marek's disease virus replication by inhibiting gB expression.

Envelope glycoprotein that forms spikes at the surface of virion envelope. Essential for the initial attachment to heparan sulfate moieties of the host cell surface proteoglycans. Involved in fusion of viral and cellular membranes leading to virus entry into the host cell. Following initial binding to its host receptors, membrane fusion is mediated by the fusion machinery composed at least of gB and the heterodimer gH/gL. May be involved in the fusion between the virion envelope and the outer nuclear membrane during virion egress.
